Second
Family Memory Care Center is NEPA’s premier adult day care exclusively
serving individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias
(ADRD).
As our loved ones progress through dementia, challenging
behaviors often become an added dynamic for caregivers. All behaviors are a
form of communication for us to interpret. Challenging behaviors are attempts
to convey either a physical or emotional need that is not being met. Some physical
needs include hunger, thirst, bathroom issues, being cold or hot, and pain
while some emotional needs are loneliness, depression, boredom, overstimulation,
feeling needed, and being heard just to name a few. When we determine what the
unmet need is and meet it, challenging behaviors dissipate.
As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns. I am here to help!
